Une âme très belle!

Dear Friend,

For some time now, Mathilda has been hoping to go to Lac-Etchemin with Sophie to be able to spend a day with the Sisters. Her parents who were in favor of their daughter’s desire, accepted to drive them there. What a pleasant day it was!

As they were leaving, Sister Lucette gave each one a beautiful crystal stone, saying to them: “These stones were given to us by some Sisters in the United States who are affiliated with the Work. Where these Sisters live, the earth is particularly rich with this crystal quartz and open-pit deposits exist where people can go on an excursion and search for a precious stone. Cristal et fleursMoreover, the most beautiful crystal quartz pieces in the world come from these sites and from the ones in Brazil. When these crystal ‘prospectors’ are lucky enough to find a piece of quartz which took millions of years to form, be it big or small, uncut, pointed or with crystals in it, opaque or translucid, it belongs to them with all its value. These good Sisters had also offered beautiful cut-crystal gems or stones to Marie-Paule, and they were used to adorn the edge of the chalice of the Memorial on the wall behind the altar at Spiri-Maria. Have you ever noticed them? I am offering you these stones to remind you that our soul must become as beautiful as a transparent and well polished crystal, so that it will let the Light of God pass through.”

Marie-Paule often used the expression “a crystal soul” to describe the soul of certain persons in particular. Concerning Adam whom she had contemplated with the eye of her soul in the Garden of Eden or Terrestrial Paradise, she wrote: “Adam, in his paradise, was as transparent as crystal.” (Le Royaume, no. 137, p. 4). Consequently, when Marie-Paule said of someone that he or she had a crystal soul, we understood that their spiritual soul radiated a great beauty, a ravishing beauty, full of light, which attracted her gaze and her love.

When she talked to us about a crystal soul, that was something divine, something we should strive to have or to maintain, because it is really possible for us to successfully realize such a masterpiece of beauty.

So it is that, when we speak of the reality of crystal souls, we feel rising in our hearts a great desire for beauty, purity and transparency. Think about it! Don’t you want God to be attracted by the marvelous crystalline beauty of your soul? The ideal of beauty thrusts us upwards, uplifts and stimulates us. Marie-Paule had understood that the transparency of the spiritual soul in which God wishes to contemplate himself, is the most important beauty to be sought.

Lys blancShe wrote in Life of Love: “I want my soul to be beautiful so that it may be ever more pleasing to Love. All of my life I have asked God that I not be beautiful physically so that I might go my way unnoticed. To this end, I practically never wear jewelry; I dress simply and soberly, and cosmetics hold no interest for me save as a means to soften my emaciated visage. On the other hand, I have longed – yes, very much – for a most beautiful soul, and I have been prepared to bear any suffering in order to have it, so that, having become very beautiful, my soul might seduce Love to the point where He will accept all the souls that I desire Him to have in His beautiful Heaven.” (Life of Love, vol. II, chap. 67, p. 317)

However, a crystal soul can only be acquired through effort and working on ourselves. How do we do this? Marie-Paule has taught us how to do it. First of all, we must seriously avoid all grievous sins which are contrary to God’s commandments and blacken the spiritual soul.

During adolescence, the desire not to stand out or be different from the others can often lead us to follow dangerous paths, be disobedient, have passing love affairs, outings where there isn’t the required supervision and which risk seriously tarnishing our soul. The sacrament of reconciliation is there to “cleanse” the soul. Remember that it is never too late to start working on our real beauty.

Éclat de cristalThe more the soul will stabilized itself in good, the more it will become like crystal, crystal that is full of light. Thus, when you strive to get closer to God by talking interiorly with Jesus, Mary and Marie-Paule every day, or even with your guardian angel; when you practise goodness, kindness and charity towards everyone; Éclat de cristalwhen you obey or make a sacrifice; when you go to confession or receive Communion in order to have the strength to avoid Evil; when you let yourself be purified by the ordeals or the painful detachments which are held out to you, your soul is being polished and gradually becomes as beautiful as crystal.

Keep in mind the fascinating beauty of crystal which is pure, transparent, of an immaterial transparency, full of light. “I have longed – yes, very much – for a most beautiful soul…  so that, having become very beautiful, my soul might seduce Love,” Marie-Paule said.

In your turn, become beautiful with an inner beauty which can be discovered in your eyes. For, “nothing embellishes and lights up a woman’s face like the gentle reflections of the beauty of her soul.” (Louis Belmontet)
