The Daughters of Mary

Soyez toujours dignes!

Dear Friend,

Mathilda likes clothes a lot and all the topics dealing with fashion. It must be said that she naturally has good taste. Maybe she inherited that from her mother, a woman who is always well dressed, dignified, who knows how to conduct herself properly and who chooses clothes that are very becoming.

Her father too is always neat and well groomed, and he never misses an opportunity to complement his daughter when he likes her choice of attire and it suits her well, or when her hairdo is particularly nice. But he also imposes certain limits and makes demands which annoy Mathilda. For example, clothes with holes or frayed, or giving an impression of neglect aren’t allowed in the family, even if this is the latest trend among the young people. Mathilda shed many a tear, recently, because of his categorical refusal.

For some time now, when Mathilda and Sophie get together and they have permission to spend a few hours on the computer, they search on Google, looking to find just the right dress for each one of them for the wedding of Sophie’s older brother, Xavier, and Colombe, Mathilda’s cousin, in September. Sophie also found there beautiful hairdos for the occasion. Since she is the groom’s sister, her dress will be a little more stylish, but, one thing is certain, these two friends will both be absolutely lovely.

In adolescence, clothing takes on a greater importance. Since we don’t want to stand out from the others, it is often a means of being accepted in the group and identifying with it. Although that is a normal attitude among all young people, it is also a good idea that you be able to stand back from the group a little so as to maintain some independence with regard to what it tends to impose, and thus gradually learn to make your choices in keeping with your vocation as a Daughter of Mary.

fleurs rosesRemember that your body envelops your spiritual soul and that, as a woman, you have the vocation of inspiring people with what is good and beautiful. If, at your age, a few eccentricities with regard to clothes can be accepted as a passing fad, the fact remains that it is a good idea to start early to be able to choose beautiful fashions and adopt a style that is indicative of a feminine simplicity, modesty, beauty and distinction; a style that has a certain class, that corresponds to what you are or want to be interiorly.

Up to the time when Heaven asked Marie-Paule to always wear the long white dress, our Mother would dress in keeping with the fashion of that time while continuing to maintain a wonderful simplicity. In a talk to retreat participants on September 13, 2003, she said: “The woman is identified, personified by the clothes she wears. Women should ask themselves if Mary would wear this or that garment if she were living in our midst.”

And Marie-Paule encouraged them to choose elegant-looking styles. Moreover, you might notice that even the Virgin Mary in her apparitions always wears very beautiful dresses – never slacks or pants – and She radiates beauty.

To help Mathilda and Sophie in their search, Colombe recommended a few Internet websites to them. We must admit that this dear Colombe herself has a little something extra, a distinction, a special elegance that is attractive. She is very feminine and she chooses things which bring out the best in her, whether that is for everyday wear or for special occasions. She learned how to follow the trends without, for all that, becoming a slave to a particular style or fashion.

And her soul shows through in her manner of dressing, of presenting herself, of conducting herself, in her manner of being. Yes, what she wears, just like her manner of presenting herself, says something about her, about her inner qualities. And people respect her, are kind and polite with her.

Fleurs rosesAmong the websites suggested by Colombe, one of them guides her a lot in her choice of clothing, “Special woman, attractive and decent”: https://www.femmeapart.com/

The young woman who set up this website is a convinced Catholic who encourages reflection on distinction, elegance and the role of the woman. She publishes very interesting things on a variety of topics such as beauty or health tips as well as advice on how to favor, for example, a certain type of silhouette, a certain kind of morphology, the color of a natural complexion, or to help find the range of colors which suit each one, etc. Mathilda and Sophie will discover many things in all this information.

Adolescence is a period during which we are forming ourselves and there is much joy when we can learn to become the best possible individual, with our strengths and our weaknesses.

As for you, remember that, whether one is short or tall, slim or chubbier, all women must begin by cultivating their inner beauty. “Women after God’s Heart are beautiful,” Marie-Paule said to some adolescents. She added: “Always be dignified!
